DO YOU LOVE GOD?

2 Corinthians 13:5-9 The Message (MSG)

Test yourselves to make sure you are solid in the faith. Don’t drift along taking everything for granted. Give yourselves regular checkups. You need firsthand evidence, not mere hearsay that Jesus Christ is in you. Test it out. If you fail the test, do something about it. I hope the test won’t show that we have failed. But if it comes to that, we’d rather the test showed our failure than yours. We’re rooting for the truth to win out in you. We couldn’t possibly do otherwise.

We don’t just put up with our limitations; we celebrate them, and then go on to celebrate every strength, every triumph of the truth in you. We pray hard that it will all come together in your lives.

A friend of mine is convinced that one of his College lecturer really enjoyed giving tests. He didn’t give just 6 week tests & final exams. He gave his students a test every single week without fail.

On one occasion he gave a very difficult test. You could tell that by the groans of the students. And as one question followed another, the groaning got louder.

Then, after the test was finished, each student was told to grade his own paper. My friend recalls, "He read us the correct answers and to my dismay, I found I scored low on the test. In other words, I failed the test. And I thought, ‘This will ruin my grade point average for the whole semester!’"

But just then the lecturer said, "Now I’m not going to record the grades of this test. I gave you this test for your benefit, and not for mine."

You know, at times God does the same thing. In fact, all the way through the Bible you’ll find God giving that kind of a test to his children. Remember the story of Abraham and Sara whom God presented with a wonderful gift in their old age, their son, Isaac. But later, God tested Abraham. He said, "I want you to take your son Isaac, and offer him as a sacrifice on the mountain." This test was for Abraham’s benefit, not God’s. God already knew Abraham’s heart, and He knew that Abraham loved Him. But God wanted Abraham to know just how far he was willing to go in trusting God, and Abraham passed the test.

Now, I need to ask, how about you? If you were asked, "Do you love God?" how would you answer? I imagine that most of us would answer, "Why, yes. I love God."

It’s easy to say that we love God, as long as we don’t probe any deeper than that. But the Bible does probe deeper, and it asks more questions than just that one.

But let’s look again at what Paul is saying, "Examine yourself. Give yourself a test: Are you in the faith?” As a Christian, if Jesus Christ lives in you and His Spirit affects the way you think and speak and act, then the answer is “Yes.” But if the way you speak and act shows that Jesus Christ is not living in you, then no matter how much you may say you love God, the answer is “No,” and you have failed the test.

Can you truly say that you Love God when you refuse to obey His COMMANDMENTS...

Many a time, we profess that we love God when actually refuse to obey Him… Disobedience is an act of hatred unto Him (GOD). There are some issues in our life that we refuse God in taken care of…..you know them, they are issues that you cannot mention of.

I need to ask, do you love GOD?

What about all the Don’t of God that you find hard in accepting?, or issues that you call Old doctrine and that you have been released from such laws (I need not bring those issues up because so many people love to justify their sin by using scriptures to cover up their own evil device). Issues like COVERING OF HAIR…….THITHE,……..FORSAKING THE ASSEMBLY OF THE CHILDREN OF GOD……….you know many of them. Listen to what the Bible say in:-

Revelations.22:10-17 “Don’t seal the words of the prophecy of this book; don’t put it away on the shelf. Time is just about up. Let evildoers do their worst and the dirty-minded go all out in pollution, but let the righteous maintain a straight course and the holy continue on in holiness.”

 “Yes, I’m on my way! I’ll be there soon! I’m bringing my payroll with me. I’ll pay all people in full for their life’s work. I’m A to Z, the First and the Final, Beginning and Conclusion.

 “How blessed are those who wash their robes! The Tree of Life is theirs for good, and they’ll walk through the gates to the City. But outside for good are the filthy curs: sorcerers, fornicators, murderers, idolaters—all who love and live lies.

“I, Jesus, sent my Angel to testify to these things for the churches. I’m the Root and Branch of David, the Bright Morning Star.”

 “Come!” say the Spirit and the Bride.
Whoever hears, echo, “Come!”
Is anyone thirsty? Come!
All who will, come and drink,
Drink freely of the Water of Life!

Can you see if you are in faith or not?

Like I was privilege to listen to a sermon in our Church yesterday in which the preacher shared on FEELINGS or FAITH?

Many of we so called are reacting to issues with our feelings and not faith. We had far abandoned the issue of faith in God with I call feelings……

Proverbs.14:12-13 MSG “There’s a way of life that looks harmless enough;
look again—it leads straight to hell. Sure, those people appear to be having a good time, but all that laughter will end in heartbreak”.

(NIV) “There is a way that appears to be right, but in the end it leads to death. Even in laughter the heart may ache, and rejoicing may end in grief.

The Bible taught us that if we have a living, dynamic faith that we will be obedient to the commands of the Lord.

Jesus said, "If you love me, you will keep my commandments." (John 14:15). The Apostle John wrote, "This is love for God: to obey His commands. And His commands are not burdensome." (1 John 5:3).

Are you in love with God? If so, then obey His words. There is no way for you to separate God’s Word away from your life and say that you are truly in Love with Him……..

I have another question for you. 1 Corinthians.11 It is in a passage of scripture that we don’t hear too often.

The verses preceding it are often read during Communion services, and we generally end our service with verse. 26 where it says, “For whenever you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until He comes.” That’s a good place to end. So we don’t often read the rest of the passage.

But vs. 27 goes on to say, “Therefore, whoever eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of sinning against the body and blood of the Lord.” Those are pretty heavy words, aren’t they?

Continuing on, in verses 28 and 31, “A man ought to examine himself before he/she eats of the bread and drinks of the cup. For anyone who eats and drinks without recognizing the body of the Lord eats and drinks judgment on himself. That is why many among you are weak, sick, and a number of you have fallen asleep. But if we judged ourselves, we would not come under judgment."

Have you ever really stopped to think about that passage? The Bible teaches that the early church met together regularly in a time of Communion. And that is why we meet together and serve the emblems of the Lord’s Supper every Lord’s Day.

Now here is what Paul is saying. "Every time you gather around this table you ought to look deep inside and examine yourself. You ought to give yourself a test. And here is the test question, ‘Am I recognizing the Lord’s body?’

Are you recognizing the body, or are you just taking the sacrifice of Jesus on Calvary for granted?

I think that "recognizing the body of the Lord" also includes this: The Bible tells us that the church is the body of Christ. And the only way the world will ever know about God is for the church to do its God given job.

Do you recognize the church as the body of Christ? Are you faithful in it? Are you giving of your time, your talent, even the way that you DRESS and your energy to make the church a true reflection of the love of God expressed through Jesus our Lord?

The question is, "Are you recognizing the body of Christ?" If the answer is "Yes," then partake of the emblems. If the answer is "No," then Paul says, "You are becoming weak, sick, and in danger of falling asleep (DEATH)."

Then notice how Paul ends this passage about examining ourselves. He says, "If we judge ourselves, then we won’t have to worry about the judgment of God."

You see, final exam time is coming. And Paul says, "If you have passed all the pop quizzes, if you have been answering the questions correctly, then when the final exam day comes, you won’t have to worry about the judgment. Because all along you have been judging yourself."

In conclusion, I will like to quote Revelation.22 once again:-

Can you see if you are in faith or not….or can you see if you truly Love God or not? Answer that you give, signify the very path you are treading.

Prodigal son would not have been able to get restored if he had not acted upon the Divine revelation that he had on going back to his ROOT(Father's house). It is not what you know, but about what is done.........

A Good Story, a True Story, a Giving Story

I can't take credit for this giving story but as it was sent to me in an email. The impact it had made me wants to share it with you. This is a good story; a true story.

I am a mother of three, ages 14, 12, 3. I recently completed my college degree. The last class I had to take was Sociology.

The teacher was absolutely inspiring with the qualities that I wish every human being had been graced with.

Her last project of the term was called, 'Smile.'

The class was asked to go out and smile at three people and document their reactions.

I am a very friendly person and always smile at everyone and say hello anyway. So, I thought this would be a piece of cake, literally.

Soon after we were assigned the project, my husband, youngest son, and I went out to McDonald's one crisp March morning.

It was just our way of sharing special playtime with our son.

We were standing in line, waiting to be served, when all of a sudden everyone around us began to back away, and then even my husband did.

I did not move an inch... an overwhelming feeling of panic welled up inside of me as I turned to see why they had moved.

As I turned around I smelled a horrible 'dirty body' smell, and there standing behind me were two poor homeless men.

As I looked down at the short gentleman, close to me, he was 'smiling'.

His beautiful sky blue eyes were full of God's Light as he searched for acceptance.

He said, 'Good day' as he counted the few coins he had been clutching.

The second man fumbled with his hands as he stood behind his friend. I realized the second man was mentally challenged and the blue-eyed gentleman was his salvation.

I held my tears as I stood there with them.

The young lady at the counter asked him what they wanted.

He said, 'Coffee is all Miss' because that was all they could afford. (If they wanted to sit in the restaurant and warm up, they had to buy something. He just wanted to be warm).

Then I really felt it - the compulsion was so great I almost reached out and embraced the little man with the blue eyes.

That is when I noticed all eyes in the restaurant were set on me, judging my every action.

I smiled and asked the young lady behind the counter to give me two more breakfast meals on a separate tray.

I then walked around the corner to the table that the men had chosen as a resting spot. I put the tray on the table and laid my hand on the blue-eyed gentleman's cold hand.

He looked up at me, with tears in his eyes, and said, 'Thank you.'

I leaned over, began to pat his hand and said, 'I did not do this for you.
God is here working through me to give you hope.'

I started to cry as I walked away to join my husband and son. When I sat down my husband smiled at me and said, 'That is why God gave you to me, Honey, to give me hope.'

We held hands for a moment and at that time we knew that only because of the Grace that we had been given were we able to give.

We are not church goers, but we are believers.

That day showed me the pure Light of God's sweet love.

I returned to college, on the last evening of class, with this story in hand.

I turned in 'my project' and the instructor read it.

Then she looked up at me and said, 'Can I share this?'

I slowly nodded as she got the attention of the class.

She began to read and that is when I knew that we as human beings and being part of God share this need to heal people and to be healed.

In my own way I had touched the people at McDonald's, my son, instructor, and every soul that shared the classroom on the last night I spent as a college student.

I graduated with one of the biggest lessons I would ever learn:

UNCONDITIONAL ACCEPTANCE.

Much love and compassion is sent to each and every person who may read this and learn how to LOVE PEOPLE AND USE THINGS - NOT LOVE THINGS AND USE PEOPLE.

There is an Angel sent to watch over you.

In order for her to work, you must pass this on to the people you want watched over.

An Angel wrote:

Many people will walk in and out of your life, but only true friends will leave footprints in your heart.

To handle yourself, use your head.

To handle others, use your heart.

God gives every bird it's food, but He does not throw it into its nest.

 

 

IT’S NOT TOO LATE: Praise the LORD!

We SERVE an OMNIPOTENT GOD with whom ABSOLUTELY NOTHING is IMPOSSIBLE.

Ephesians 3:20 ‘Unto HIM that is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think…’

Bigger than all my problems, Bigger than all my fears,
GOD is bigger than any mountain, I can or cannot see
Bigger than all my questions, Bigger than anything
GOD is bigger than any mountain, that I can or cannot see.

Our GOD is MORE than a TALKING & DECLARING GOD, Our GOD is a DOING GOD.

There is NO IMPOSSIBLE CIRCUMSTANCE too far gone, that GOD cannot CHANGE.
There is NO PROBLEM too big that GOD cannot SOLVE.
There is NO SICKNESS that GOD cannot HEAL.
There is NO PRAYER that GOD cannot ANSWER.
There is NO SINNER too lost in their sin that GOD cannot SAVE.
There is NO BACKSLIDER too far from GOD that GOD cannot RESTORE.
There is NO MARRIAGE that GOD cannot PUT BACK TOGETHER.

The entire king’s horses & all the king’s men could not put HUMPTY DUMPTY back together again; somebody should have CALLED UPON GOD.

I’m GLAD GOD doesn’t GIVE UP just because SOME PEOPLE GIVE UP!

GOD has CHANGED countless SITUATIONS & CIRCUMSTANCES & PREDICAMENTS & PEOPLE that were LONG AGO GIVEN UP ON by people.

There are SOME PEOPLE who because of their PARTICULAR SINS & their PARTICULAR LIFESTYLE & their DEGRADED STATE we find it so EASY to GIVE UP on them. We LISTEN TOO MUCH to the DEVIL when he tells us, “Why there’s NO NEED to PRAY for them. There’s NO NEED to VISIT them. There’s NO NEED to WITNESS to them. You’ll NEVER SEE them CHANGE.”

I’m persuaded to believe that there are many people who are in their SITUATION, their CIRCUMSTANCES, & their SINS but they’re NOT AT ALL --- TOTALLY HAPPY there. They would love to TRADE PLACES with people who are DIFFERENT FROM THEM but they don’t know WHERE TO BEGIN.

We’re looking at a person in the BIBLE that so many people thought was HOPELESS. So many people thought it was TOO LATE for her.

I am simply taking a look at RAHAB.

v  Joshua 2:1-15

RAHAB was a HARLOT. We’re told that her place of BUSINESS was well situated.
Verse #15: ‘her house was on the city wall.’

One day she is VISITED by two STRANGERS. We are told they were SPIES sent by JOSHUA the LEADER of the ISRAELITES to SPY out the land of JERICHO.
The SPIES wanted to be as INCONSPICIOUS as possible and as SAFE as possible, so they found a place where STRANGERS would go, the LOCAL BETHROAL, RAHAB’S HOUSE, in order to look as INCONSPICOUS as possible.

However, SOMEBODY saw them go into RAHAB’S HOUSE & REPORTED it to the KING that we have two JEWISH MEN gone into RAHAB, the HARLOT’S house.

RAHAB hides them on her ROOF & she says to the KING’S MEN:
‘Oh you just missed them. They left about five minutes ago but if you hurry you might catch them.’

So she SENDS THEM AWAY who were trying to SEEK OUT these men and then goes up to the ROOF TOP to where she has HIDDEN the twoSPIES from ISRAEL, and she says to them,
Verse #9: ‘I KNOW that the LORD has given you the land’

So the reason I hid you upon my ROOF is because, the LORD, your GOD is the GOD of HEAVEN and of EARTH. Hmmmmmmmmmm

Verse #12: she says:
‘Now therefore, please swear to me, by the LORD, since I have dealt KINDLY with you; that you will also deal KINDLY with me & my father’s household. and give me a pledge, spare my father, my mother, my brothers, my sisters and all who belong to them and deliver our lives from this death.’
She is saying: - In other words: ‘We KNOW we’re fixing to get DESTROYED & I want to be DELIVERED.’

The word “KINDLY” is an INTERESTING word.
She said: ‘Will you deal KINDLY with me.’
In the HEBREW the word KINDLY means:
‘LOYAL LOVE and it referred to GOD’S COVENANT COVERING.

RAHAB SENSED that these 2 MEN had the COVERING – the ANOINTING of JEHOVAH GOD.
She knew that they had been SENT BY GOD & that a LOYAL LOVE belongs to the GOD they served. So she says to the men, ‘I WANT GOD’S LOYAL COVERING of HIS LOVE upon me & my family for I have STEPPED OUT by FAITH.

Hebrews 6:10 ‘GOD is not unrighteous to forget your work & your labor of love, which you have showed toward HIS name…’

GOD REMEMBERS WHAT WE HAVE DONE:

Joshua 6:17 ‘The city shall be under the man, and it all that belongs to the LORD, only RAHAB, the HARLOT, & all who are with her in the house, shall live, because she hid the messengers we sent.

Joshua 6:25 ‘However, RAHAB, the HARLOT, and her father’s household & all she had, JOSHUA spared and she had lived in the midst of Israel to this day, for she had hid the messengers, whom JOSHUA sent to spy out JERICHO.

The BEAUTY of ASSOCIATION with GOD’S KINGDOM PURPOSES is that when STUFF COLLAPSES AROUND YOU–GOD CAN STILL TAKE CARE of us.
Because we are in HIS WILL and we’re NOT COLLAPSING with the PEOPLE or the CULTURE around us. WE’RE NOT COLLAPSING:

•That is WHY GOD CAN TAKE CARE of us in the MIDST of a WICKED WORLD.
•That is WHY GOD CAN TAKE CARE of OUR NEEDS & OUR JOBS when the ECONOMY of the WORLD is in TROUBLE. GOD FED the PROPHET ELIJAH by ROUTE of a BIRD.
•That is WHY GOD CAN TAKE CARE of OUR HOUSEHOLDS, and OUR FAMILIES & OUR MARRIAGES when MOST HOMES and MOST MARRIAGES are FALLING APART..
•That is WHY GOD CAN SPARE OUR SHIPS on the STORMY SEAS WHEN ALL OTHER SHIPS are SINKING.
•BECAUSE we’re NOT WALKING LIKE the WORLD.
•We’re NOT FOLLOWING the CROWD:
•We’re FOLLOWING the KINGDOM of GOD. GOD’S WILL. and GOD’S PURPOSES.

But RAHAB’S STORY does NOT END with the Old Testament SCRIPTURES:

Her NAME is REPEATED OFTEN in the New Testament SCRIPTURES.
So EVIDENTLY there is SOMETHING GOD wants us to LEARN about RAHAB.
------------------------------------------------------whether she is MENTIONED in the Old or in the New Testament what I know is that GOD DOESN’T DROP HER TITLE: It is always RAHAB the HARLOT.


GOD DOESN’T go around REFERRING to MOSES, as MOSES the MURDERER when HE speaks of GREAT FAITH.
GOD DOESN’T go around REFERRING to ABRAHAM as ABRAHAM the LIAR, when HE speaks of GREAT FAITH, but GOD did not do that in Hebrews chapter 11, when it came to RAHAB, GOD says, ‘RAHAB the HARLOT.’


It is like GOD DOES NOT WANT US to FORGET this WOMAN who made her MONEY by CHARGING MEN for SEX.


But the QUESTION is “WHY” – “WHY” does GOD keep on TITLING this woman throughout the SCRIPTURES as ‘RAHAB the HARLOT.’ Rather than just saying ‘RAHAB’ & LEAVING it at that.

WHY DOES GOD wants us to KNOW this is the WOMAN of the Old Testament WHO was of ILL REPUTE?

It is BECAUSE ------ GOD wants us to KNOW through her ILLUSTRATION --that OUR PAST ----- DOES NOT HAVE TO ----- CONTROL OUR FUTURE!

I imagine that RAHAB had given up any HOPE of ever TURNING HER LIFE AROUND but GOD had OTHER IDEAS. HE can turn SHAME into GLORY in ONE SHINING MOMENT of REDEMPTION.

GOD wants us to KNOW that NO MATTER ----- HOW WRETCHED OUR PAST may be
{ I mean you DON’T GET ANY LOWER than SELLING YOUR BODY to MAN after MAN & to STRANGER after STRANGER, DAY after DAY---WEEK after WEEK-----MONTH after MONTH – YEAR after YEAR. That is just about AS LOW as ONE CAN GO!

But this has been PLACED in Hebrews 11: next to MOSES & ABRAHAM & SARAH
She is PLACED next to NOAH, ENOCH, ABEL and GOD tells us WHAT SHE WAS ---so that we TODAY who have HAD some BAD PASTS ---- WRETCHED PASTS ---NEGATIVE PASTS --- EVIL PASTS. GOD wants us to KNOW if we GET OUR STUFF TOGETHER ----- WITH HIM, He can take our YESTERDAYS & make them BETTER TOMORROWS, because --- IT IS NOT TOO LATE!

She did NOT HAVE a RELIGIOUS BACKGROUND.
She did NOT HAVE a GODLY HUSBAND.
All she DID HAVE was a SHAMEFUL PAST –

BUT when she CONNECTED HER PURPOSES to GOD’S PURPOSES That was TIED to these 2 SPIES, then – ALL of that WHICH was AT WORK AGAINST HER GOT TURNED AROUND and she BECAME a NEW CREATION in GOD.

II Corinthians 5:17 ‘Therefore if any man be in CHRIST, he is a new creature, old things have passed away & behold all things have become new.’

When RAHAB CONNECTED HER PURPOSE to GOD’S PURPOSE her WHOLE LIFE was CHANGED, MADE NEW & not ONLY was she DELIVERED but her WHOLE FAMILY was DELIVERED.


So REGARDLESS of WHAT OUR PAST IS, REGARDLESS of HOW BAD the SITUATION, CIRCUMSTANCE, PREDICAMENT, PROBLEM IS,

IT IS NOT TOO LATE!!
IT IS NOT TOO LATE!
IT IS NOT TOO LATE!


The woman found in Joshua chapter 2 is also the woman found in Hebrews chapter 11.
GOD KNOWS HOW to TAKE LEMONS & MAKE LEMONADE from them.
GOD KNOWS HOW to TAKE a MESS, a STORM, a BATTLE, a TRIAL, a VALLEY, and
TURN IT INTO a GLORIOUS MIRACLE that GIVES HIM GLORY, HONOR and PRAISE!

So GOD KEEPS THAT TAG so that we KNOW that GOD CAN TURN a LIFE AROUND.
But that’s NOT ALL:


Let us go to Matthew chapter 1:

I love this verse #5: ‘and SALMON was the father of BOAZ by RAHAB, then BOAZ was the father of OBED by RUTH then OBED was the father of JESSE
Verse #6:and then JESSE was the father of DAVID.

We were told in Joshua 6:25 ‘and JOSHUA saved the harlot, RAHAB, alive, & her father’s household, & all that she had, & she dwells in Israel even unto this day; because she hid the messengers, which JOSHUA sent to spy out JERICHO.’

RAHAB & all her family were DIVINELY DELIVERED from the BATTLE of JERICHO & they were taken to the land of ISRAEL to live.
RAHAB has a NEW FAMILY; RAHAB is HANGING OUT on a DIFFERENT STREET CORNER and NOW HANGING OUT with the PEOPLE of GOD.

A MAN named SALMON sees RAHAB and FALL in LOVE with her, and MARRIES HER.
SALMON is believed to be one of the two SPIES that RAHAB HID on her ROOF.


They have a SON named BOAZ. BOAZ sees RUTH in the FIELDS GLEANING the GRAIN & fell in love with her. They have a SON named OBED and OBED fathers JESSE and JESSE fathers DAVID.

 

RAHAB becomes GREAT- GREAT GRANDMOTHER of KING DAVID.
JESUS was BORN from the HOUSEHOLD of DAVID:-That shows us that NOT ONLY does GOD CHANGE what appears to be HOPELESS PEOPLE, GOD also USES THEM for HIS GLORY and HIS HONOR.

Joshua 2:17-19 ‘and the men said unto her, We will be blameless on this thine oath which thou has made us swear. Behold, when we come into the land, thou shalt bind this line of scarlet thread in the window which thou did let us down by. & thou shalt bring thy father & thy mother & thy brethren & thy sisters & all thy father’s household home unto thee. & it shall be that whosoever shall go out of the doors of thy house into the streets, his blood shall be upon his own head & we will be guiltless. & whosoever shall be within the house, his blood shall be upon our head, if any hand be upon him.’

The CORD of SCARLET THREAD:-

There was already this SCARLET CORD in RAHAB’S HOUSE.
RED LIGHT DISTRICT. It was a SYMBOL of her TRADE. When men saw the RED- CORD hanging they knew there was a HARLOT to be found there.
But the SPIES told her to HANG the CORD this time NOT for men to SEE but for GOD to SEE. When GOD sees it, it is a CONFESSION of RAHAB’S SINS:

Here is the MESSAGE for us today.
When we HANG our SINS before GOD, then GOD SENDS FORTH HIS MERCY and HIS GRACE. 

Isaiah 1: 18 ‘Come now & let us reason together, says the LORD, though your sins be as SCARLET they shall be as white as snow, though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.’

Do not think anymore about your past failures, as long as you have turned... back unto God. The original intention of God towards Man is to be Fruitful in life. and become an ETERNAL GOSPEL ATTRACTION. But man fell through Adam, still yet God made a way back unto Himself through Christ Jesus whom became the Way the Truth and the Life. It is through this media that we regain back our lost Glory. Praise the Loord!!!!!!!!
 

Remember today that you are not a FAILURE, but a SUCCESS and a MIRACLE going somwhere to HAPPEN. Soon, you and I are coming HIGHER and will surely Manifest in Jesus Name. Amen.
